Get up close with our fascinating animals 🦑
We’re excited for the autumn break, where we invite you to learn about our creatures with talks and feedings happening throughout the week. In the Tropical Touch Pool, you can feed our cow nose rays and feel how soft they really are. Or leave your fingerprint with ink from a squid as we dissect one and explore how ink, arms, and hearts all come together.
You can also sit by the Ocean Tank’s four million liters of water and hear stories about hammerhead sharks, moray eels, and rays, or watch our cute, active sea otters being fed.
Children’s Theater 🦦
Our mascot Plaske never really pays attention to what the storytellers are saying. It would rather make lanterns in the creative workshop than perform in children’s theater. But be ready by the Bird Cliff at 11 AM and see if our storytellers can capture the lively sea otter, Plaske. (There is no children’s theater from October 30th to November 3rd).
Creative Workshop and Play Area 🏮
When the body needs a little movement and the playground doesn’t entice in autumn weather, let the kids loose in our play area with foam toys on the first floor. For the creative ones, it’s possible to decorate your own lantern and help the anglerfish see again between 1 PM and 3 PM. (The lantern workshop is not open from October 30th to November 3rd)
Crawling critters and Secrets from the Jungle Path 🦗
You can get an extra adventure in our fantastic Rainforest when we showcase our many-legged creatures in our creepy-crawly wagon. Get up close to giant centipedes, spiders, and crawling and hopping insects. Feel how sharp piranha teeth are and taste mealworms and grasshoppers.
In the evening, we turn on the flashlights when our storytellers invite you for a walk on the Jungle Path. Help find our sloth, many lizards, and perhaps you can spot our new Victoria crowned pigeon chick. Regardless, our storyteller will tell plenty of exciting stories about the many hidden animals. 🔦
Special Exhibition: Once Upon a Sea 🦈
Long before humans existed on Earth, the seas teemed with life. From giant sea reptiles to bizarre creatures that don’t resemble anything we know today. In the special exhibition “ Once Upon a Sea,” you can get up close to past giants in the form of 11 models of the most spectacular sea creatures that ever lived – in full size.
