Megalodon Week

Megalodon Week

Did you know that the world’s largest shark ever, the Megalodon, once lived in Denmark? This gigantic prehistoric shark could grow over 20 metres long, and its fossils have been found in the Gram Clay Pit in Southern Jutland.

In our Special Exhibition: Once Upon a Sea, you can experience an impressive 15-metre-long model of the Megalodon.

Recent research shows that the Megalodon could grow up to 24 metres long – so maybe our model is just a cute teenager?

Meet the Paleontologist Behind the Discovery

On Monday, May 12, paleontologist Mette Elstrup from Gram Clay Pit will visit us to talk about the spectacular find and the hope of one day discovering a complete skeleton of this ancient giant. Mette will give a talk at 17:00 in front of the Ocean Tank. She’ll also bring real Gram clay so you can try your hand at fossil hunting. (The talk will be in danish).
