Well hidden

The longnose hawkfish has an eye-catching pattern that helps when hiding on the reef. They often lie on top of gorgonians and their pattern makes it disappear.

Protects its hiding place

The longnose hawkfish does not like it when fellow species get too close. Once it has found a good hiding place with plenty of food, the hawkfish does everything it can to stay there.

Patient hunter

The longnose hawkfish lies in wait among gorgonians for its prey. They can lie there for several hours until some bite-sized prey arrives.
